The prestigious HOBI Awards are presented to the top builders in the state showing an excellence in both craftsmanship and design.

  Richard Assenza, president of Assenza Builders, Inc., accepted the award for one of his houses in Goshen, CT built in the Woodridge Lake Community. Mr. Assenza has been a member of the National Association of Home Builders for over 25 years and served on the board of directors for Fairfield County Home Builders for 9 years. He presently resides with his wife Betsy in Goshen, CT at Woodridge Lake, which is a private lake community with 12,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, heated Olympic pool, 8 tennis courts and a marina for owners not located at waters edge.

  Building this home was a challenge due to the sensitivity of the lot. A large area of the lot had wetlands soil which had to be relocated.
The lower section of the lot was left natural to preserve this fragile area; every precaution had to be taken to ensure preservation of the remaining wetlands and of course the lake itself.

  To make things more difficult the lot dropped off dramatically from the road and my wetland permit specified that no fill could be deposited on this lot. The driveway had to be built using the material and rocks already on the lot.

  The hard cost to build this home excluding the land was $200.00 (two hundred dollars) per square foot.

The master bedroom suite is located on this end of the house. The large palladium window sits over the whirlpool tub located in the cathedral master bedroom. In this photo you can see the lake located to the rear of the house, the natural setting has been preserved, leaving the large trees and natural rocks.
